Why this journal exists
Most travel writing about Africa is written for people who have already decided to go, and it treats a continent of fifty-four countries as a single destination with a single mood. That framing fails almost everyone: the traveller researching a first trip, the family tracing ancestry, the group leader trying to build an itinerary that holds together.
Echoes of Africa is our attempt at something more useful. We write about specific places for specific reasons — what happened there, who lives there now, what a visitor should understand before arriving, and what it actually takes to make the journey.
What we publish
Destination hubs for countries, regions and cities. Practical planning guides that carry the date they were last checked. Articles on history, culture, food, festivals and wildlife. First-person accounts from travellers who have made the trip. And coverage of our own annual tours.
We would rather publish one carefully researched piece than ten thin ones. Content that is not ready stays unpublished. How we research, source and correct our work is set out in our editorial standards.
Who produces it
Echoes of Africa is created by LABUSA Travel, a group travel company that operates journeys across the continent. We think that connection makes the publication better — the people writing about how to plan a multi-country itinerary are the people who plan them.
It also creates an obligation to be transparent about the commercial relationship, which is why About This Website sets out exactly how it works.
