Sukur Cultural Landscape: Visitor and Heritage Guide

Before anything else: Sukur is in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, and the FCDO advises against all travel to Adamawa State. This page is a record of what the place is. It is not an encouragement to go there, and nothing below should be read as one.
We include it because Sukur is one of only two World Heritage properties Nigeria has, and a publication about African heritage that drops a country's heritage because of a security advisory has confused a record with an itinerary.
The current position
- The FCDO advises against all travel to Adamawa State.
- It also advises against all travel to Borno, Yobe and Gombe, and against all but essential travel to Bauchi.
- It records a high and increasing threat from Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa in the north east, and a high threat of kidnap.
- Foreign nationals have been kidnapped in the north, including in Adamawa.
