The FCDO publishes no money page for Seychelles. The path exists and returns the front page of the advice, word for word, which is the seventh country in this series where that is true. So this guide is built from the customs and crime advice that does exist, and from one rule that is genuinely unusual.
The declaration happens before you fly
If you are bringing cash worth 50,000 Seychellois rupees or more into Seychelles, you declare it when you apply for your travel authorization, not when you land.
That is the unusual part and it is easy to miss, because every other country in this series takes its cash declaration at the border. If you plan to carry a significant sum, the moment to say so is at your desk weeks before departure.
What the crime advice says about money
Read that list as being about where you leave things rather than about how dangerous the country is. Crime in Seychelles is described as generally non-violent, and the pattern it describes is opportunistic: a bag on a beach, a wallet in a parked car, a room in a guest house.
- Do not carry large amounts of cash.
- Do not wear expensive-looking jewelry or watches.
- The FCDO records break-ins, robberies, burglaries and opportunistic thefts, and says bags are snatched and cars and boats are broken into.
- It names parked cars, guest houses, hotels, beaches and walking trails among the places criminals target.
What we are not going to print
No exchange rate. A rate published today is wrong by the time anyone reads it, and this publication does not print one for any country.
We also have no sourced information in front of us about card acceptance or ATM availability in Seychelles, so we are not going to characterize either. The FCDO does not address it and we are not going to fill the gap from memory.
